How to draw an alien in 10 easy steps

Follow the ten steps below on paper, or tap "Draw it live" and DrawAlong will guide each line on screen, checking every stroke as you go.
How to draw an alien, step by step
1Draw the big alien head, wide on top with a small chin
Start with the biggest shape: a big upside-down egg for the head, wide and round on top and narrowing down to a small chin.
2Draw the little round body under the head
Under the chin, draw a little round body, like a small potato hanging from the head.
3Draw the left arm reaching out with a round hand
Draw the left arm: a skinny curve reaching out from the body that ends in a small round hand.
4Draw the right arm reaching out with a round hand
Draw a matching arm on the right side, reaching out the other way.
5Draw two short legs under the body
At the bottom of the body, draw two short legs with round feet, like a wiggly letter W.
6Draw a big almond eye on the left
Now the famous part: a big almond-shaped eye on the left, tilted in toward the middle of the face.
7Draw a big almond eye on the right
Draw the matching almond eye on the right. The bigger the eyes, the more alien it looks!
8Draw an antenna with a little ball on top
From the top of the head, draw an antenna going up with a little ball on the tip.
9Draw the other antenna with its little ball
Add the second antenna on the other side, just like the first.
10Add a small round mouth saying ooo
Finish with a tiny round mouth in the middle of the face, like the alien is saying ooo. Welcome to Earth!
Time to color!
Classic look: bright green head, body, arms and legs, big black eyes, a black mouth and yellow antenna balls, though a purple or sky blue alien is just as believable.
In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.
Frequently asked questions
- Is an alien a good drawing for young kids?
- Yes, it is one of the friendliest starters. It is mostly one big head shape plus a few simple curves, and since nobody knows what aliens really look like, every version is correct.
- What if the lines come out wobbly?
- Wobbly is welcome. The app checks each stroke gently and accepts anything close, so a shaky egg head or a crooked antenna still counts and still looks great.
- What do we need to get started?
- For paper drawing, just a pencil and crayons. The guided version runs free in your browser on a tablet, phone or computer, with no downloads and coloring built in.
