How to Draw a Flower: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids
How to draw a flower in 9 easy steps
A five-petal flower is one of the first "real" drawings a child can finish all by themselves: one circle, five petal loops, a stem and two leaves. Simple lines, and a result that genuinely looks like a flower.
Draw along with the nine steps below, or tap "Draw it live" and DrawAlong will guide every petal on screen, then hand over the color palette, because coloring is where flowers really bloom.
How to draw a flower, step by step
1Draw a circle for the middle
Draw a circle in the upper middle of your page. This is the center of your flower.
2Draw your first petal
Draw your first petal: start at the top edge of the circle, loop up and out, and come back down to the circle, like a big raindrop.
3Add petal number 2
Add a second petal to the right, leaning outward like a slice of the sun.
4Add petal number 3
Add a third petal on the lower right.
5Add petal number 4
Add a fourth petal on the lower left.
6Add petal number 5
Add the fifth petal on the upper left to complete the ring. Look at that, a real flower shape!
7Draw a long stem
Draw a long stem from the bottom of the flower straight down.
8Add a leaf on the left
Add a leaf on the left side of the stem, like a little boat.
9Add a leaf on the right
Add a leaf on the right side, a bit lower down. Your flower is ready to color!
Time to color!
Classic look: yellow center, pink or red petals, green stem and leaves. Adventurous look: every petal a different color. Both are correct.
In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a flower a good first drawing for young kids?
- One of the best. The shapes repeat (five similar petals), so kids get five chances to practice the same friendly loop, and each one is a little better than the last.
- What’s the hardest part?
- Spacing the petals evenly around the circle. In the live version the dotted guide shows exactly where each petal goes, so the ring always comes out balanced.
- Can kids color it in?
- Yes. After the last line, the flower’s petals, center, stem and leaves become tap-to-fill regions with a friendly color palette. Then save it as a PNG to print or share.
