How to Draw a Panda: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids

How to draw a panda in 14 easy steps

A panda is a perfect drawing for kids because it is really just circles and ovals: one big circle for the head, a round tummy underneath, two bumpy ears and two tilted eye patches. Black and white coloring means it looks finished fast, and the roly-poly shape is forgiving even when lines wobble.

Follow the ten steps below on paper, or tap "Draw it live" and DrawAlong will guide each line on screen, checking every stroke as you go.

How to draw a panda, step by step

  1. 1Draw a big round circle for the head

Start with the biggest shape: one big round circle for the panda's head.

  2. 2Draw a round ear on the top left

Add a round bumpy ear on the top left of the head, starting and ending right on the circle.

  3. 3Draw the other ear on the top right

Add a matching ear on the top right so the panda can hear you.

  4. 4Draw the big round tummy with two little feet

Now the tummy: start on the lower left of the head, swing a big round belly down and around, add two little foot bumps at the bottom, and come back up to the head on the right.

  5. 5Draw the left arm hugging the tummy

Draw the left arm hugging the tummy, a curve from the shoulder down to the hip.

  6. 6Draw the right arm the same way

Draw the right arm the same way on the other side.

  7. 7Draw one round foot

Draw one round black foot at the bottom.

  8. 8Draw the other foot

Draw the other foot next to it.

  9. 9Draw a tilted oval eye patch on the left

Draw a tilted oval on the left side of the face. That is the panda's famous eye patch, leaning in toward the middle.

  10. 10Draw the other eye patch on the right

Draw the matching eye patch on the right, tilted the other way.

  11. 11Add a little circle eye inside the left patch

Put a small circle inside the left patch for the eye.

  12. 12Add a little circle eye inside the right patch

Put a small circle inside the right patch too. Now your panda can see the bamboo.

  13. 13Draw a small rounded nose in the middle

Draw a small rounded triangle in the middle of the face for the nose.

  14. 14Add a happy little smile under the nose

From the bottom point of the nose, draw a little loop for a happy open smile. Your panda is done!

Time to color!

Color the ears, eye patches and nose black, keep the head, tummy and eyes white, and tap the little smile pink. A green background makes it feel like a bamboo forest.

In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.

Frequently asked questions

Is a panda a good drawing for young kids?
Yes, it is one of the friendliest animals to start with. Ages 4 to 8 do great because almost every step is a circle or an oval, and there are no tricky details like fingers or fur.
What if the circles come out wobbly?
Wobbly is fine. Real pandas are lumpy and round, so uneven circles actually make it cuter. If you use the live mode, DrawAlong checks each line gently and accepts strokes that are close, not just perfect ones.
What do we need to draw along?
On paper, just a pencil and something black for the patches. The guided version runs free in any web browser on a tablet, phone or computer, and drawing with a finger works fine.
