How to draw a turkey, step by step
1Draw the big egg shaped body
Start with the biggest shape: a big egg shaped body that is a little wider at the bottom.
2Draw the feather fan behind the body, bump by bump
Now the famous part! Starting on the lower left of the body, draw the feather fan up and over the top in four round bumps, ending on the lower right.
3Draw a short line from the first dip down to the body
Draw a short line from the first dip in the fan down to the side of the body. That splits off the first feather.
4Draw a line from the top dip down to the head
Draw a line from the dip at the very top straight down to the head.
5Draw a short line from the last dip down to the body
Draw a short line from the last dip down to the other side of the body. Now the fan is four separate feathers.
6Draw the little wing on the side
Add a little wing: one curved line inside the body, swooping from the left side down toward the bottom.
7Draw the small triangle beak
Draw a small triangle beak near the top of the body, pointing down.
8Draw the wobbly wattle under the beak
Right under the beak, draw the wobbly wattle, like a little water drop hanging down.
9Draw one round eye
Draw one round eye near the top of the body, a small circle like a bead.
10Draw the other round eye
Draw the other eye right next to it. Now your turkey can see the corn!
11Draw one leg with little toes
Draw one stick leg under the body with three little toes at the bottom.
12Draw the other leg and toes
Draw the other leg and toes. Gobble gobble, all done!
Time to color!
Make the body a warm brown with a dark brown wing, then take turns with orange, yellow and coral on the fan feathers, plus an orange beak and a coral red wattle.
In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.
Frequently asked questions
- What age is this turkey drawing for?
- It is made for kids about 4 to 8. The body and the feather fan are big friendly shapes, the dividing lines are short and straight, and the trickiest bits, the tiny beak and toes, come last when little hands are warmed up.
- What if the feather bumps come out wobbly?
- Wobbly bumps make the best turkeys! DrawAlong checks each line gently, so a bumpy, lumpy fan still counts. If a line misses, the app just invites another try, with no buzzer and no lost progress.
- Do we need any special materials?
- Nothing special. On paper, a pencil and some crayons are plenty. On a tablet or computer, DrawAlong runs right in the browser, so kids can draw with a finger or a mouse and then tap each feather to color it in.
