How to Draw an Apple: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids
How to draw an apple in 5 easy steps
An apple is the perfect very first drawing: one big round shape, a short stem, a little leaf, and a shiny spot. If your child can draw a roundish blob, they can draw this apple, and the finished picture looks bright and juicy.
Follow the five steps below on paper, or tap "Draw it live" and DrawAlong will guide each line on screen, checking every stroke as you go.
How to draw an apple, step by step
1Draw the big round apple
Start with the biggest shape: one big round apple with a little dip at the top and two soft bumps at the bottom.
2Draw the little stem on top
Draw a short thick stem growing up out of the dip at the top.
3Draw a leaf next to the stem
Add a little leaf on the stem, like two curvy lines that meet at a point.
4Draw a line down the middle of the leaf
Draw one line down the middle of the leaf. That is the vein.
5Add a small shine on the apple
Add a small curved shine near the top left of the apple to make it look shiny and juicy.
Time to color!
Make it a bright coral red apple with a brown stem and a fresh green leaf, and leave the shine white so the apple looks extra juicy.
In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.
Frequently asked questions
- Is an apple a good drawing for young kids?
- Yes, it is the easiest drawing on DrawAlong. It is really just one big round shape plus three tiny extras, so even four year olds can finish it quickly and feel proud of a picture that truly looks like an apple.
- What if the lines come out wobbly?
- Wobbly is welcome. The app checks each stroke gently and accepts anything close, and honestly a slightly lumpy apple looks even more like a real apple.
- What do we need to get started?
- Nothing special. DrawAlong runs free in the browser on a tablet, phone, or computer, so a finger or stylus is all it takes. On paper, a pencil and a red crayon will do the job.
