How to Draw an Ice Cream: Easy Step-by-Step for Kids

How to draw an ice cream in 9 easy steps

An ice cream cone is a perfect kid drawing: one big letter V for the cone, two round scoops stacked on top, and a cherry to finish it off. The wavy drippy edge on the bottom scoop is the part kids love most, and there is no wrong way to make a drip.

How to draw an ice cream, step by step

  1. 1Draw the big pointy cone, like a letter V

Start with the cone: draw a big letter V, wide at the top and pointy at the bottom.

  2. 2Draw the bottom scoop with a wavy drippy edge

Now the yummy part: draw the bottom scoop. Arc up and over the top of the cone, then come back with a wavy, drippy edge, like the ice cream is melting a little.

  3. 3Draw the round top scoop

Add the top scoop: a smaller round bump sitting right on the first scoop.

  4. 4Draw the little round cherry on top

Draw a small circle at the very top. That is the cherry!

  5. 5Add the tiny cherry stem

Give the cherry a tiny curved stem.

  6. 6Draw a slanted line across the cone

Draw a slanted line across the cone to make it look like a crunchy waffle cone.

  7. 7Add another slanted line below it

Add one more slanted line a little lower down.

  8. 8Add a tiny sprinkle on the top scoop

Add a tiny sprinkle on the top scoop.

  9. 9Add one more sprinkle

Add one more sprinkle. Done, and it looks delicious!

Time to color!

Try a golden yellow cone, a strawberry pink bottom scoop and a creamy vanilla top scoop, then finish with a coral red cherry and purple and blue sprinkles.

In the live version, coloring is tap-to-fill: pick a color, tap a part, done.

Frequently asked questions

Is an ice cream cone a good drawing for young kids?
Yes, it is one of the friendliest drawings there is. Ages 4 to 8 do great with it: the cone is just a big V, the scoops are round bumps, and the wavy drip can be as wobbly as you like.
What if the lines come out wobbly?
Wobbly is welcome here. DrawAlong checks each line gently and gives plenty of room, so a bumpy scoop or a crooked cone still counts. Honestly, wobbles make the melty drips look even better.
What do we need to get started?
On paper, just a pencil or crayon. Or use the free guided version right in your browser: tap Draw it live, trace each step with a finger or mouse, then color every part by tapping it.
